Hey Jon,
I remember that show. I liked it a lot. I found a fitting quote, from "War and Peace in the Global Village" which is ::
The modern artist - in music, in painting, in poetry - has been patiently expounding this fact for some decades, insisting that we educate our long neglected sense of touch and taste and hearing. Perhaps it is, above all, the sense of pain that the modern artist has discovered. Pain is a sense quite in addition to the usual five ... The artist is the only person who does not shrink from the challenge of adjusting to our vast global enviroment ...

It doesn't exactly seem to make sense unless you read the surrounding materials, but I found it to be relative.
